In any case, the discovery yesterday means with we can figure out where everyone in the active party in Ys8 comes from with the exception of Dana(?) and Ricotta!

Adol’s from the Alps, since in Memories of Celceta he mentions going east to Promalock when first setting on his journies, that he didn’t know what the sea was as a kid and also that his hometown/village was pretty isolated.

Dana’s birthplace(?) isn’t explicitly said but from her first memory scene being of herding and that of missionaries from “over the mountain”(which likely refers to Gen D’armes), she might be from the southern part of Seiren.

Laxia’s from Garman since she’s, well, a noble from Garman, although if we compare the place to irl maps, she’s technically from Poland.

Sahad’s from Greek, obviously. It’s all but said he’s a Greek fisherman.

Hummel, as I found out, has his name derived from irl German, so it’s likely that he’s from the region where Felghana and Steldum is, aka in the Garman region. (His family must’ve had really high hopes of him to name him after bumblebees, lol)

Ricotta’s a drifter onto Seiren Island, which means we really don’t know where she comes from, but considering she’s named after a type of irl Italian cheese, we can assume the person who named her, to be from in-game Italy, which when converted to the Ys map up there, pretty much is represented by Romn.

some stuff on the Detective Dana au

mainly the backstories and some other explanations

Detective Dana takes place in a slightly more modern version of the Ys universe, in Keissar, the capital of Romn. It’s a bustling city, with helpful forces of law, but the officers higher ups are much less friendly.

Dana: Originally from Grete(which in this AU is part of Romn), she’s the daughter of the local baron and of the Iclucia family. Recognized for her academic talent, she received a scholarship to study abroad in Garman, where she befriended Laxia. Right after completion of her studies, she recieved notice that her father had died in an accident in Romn, so she went there for two reasons: to pay her last respects and to set up business there after hearing rumors of increasing numbers of mysteries there.

Hummel: Dana found a man stumbling near her office building after curfew, hurt, so she did a bit of bandaging and sent him on his way. Some days afterwards, Hummel showed up and pretty much asserted himself as Dana’s assistant. Dana’s pretty sure he’s the same guy as the one she patched up earlier, but she genuinely thinks he’s taking himself way too seriously in terms of repaying debts. He’s very efficient at what he does, apart from times when he just disappears for a few days, so she eventually discards the thought.

Adol: Was the only one to respond to Dana’s request for extra help, so he’s now a second assistant. Bumbling and bookish, he’s the epitome of looking harmless, but Hummel is particularly on guard of him for some reason. Adol either doesn’t notice or doesn’t mind it. He also has deuteranopia.

Keissar Police Station: Also known as KPS, this is, well, where Keissar’s branch of police force works in. It’s still a local police force so it doesn’t have as much influence as it hopes to have. The Councillor is Silvia, known in the city as the “Silver Hawk” for her age, hair and yet-unparalled leading ability. First Chief Inspector, also the vice-head of the branch is Barbaros, who’s also from Grete and therefore knows Dana(he’s the only reason Dana isn’t shushed out of the station when she kind of dropped by). Other prominent officers include Kashu, Aaron, Calwin and Licht.

Titles:

“The Nameless Slasher”: A term that struck fear in Garman a few years back and Xandria before that, and has recently started to appear in rumors in Romn. Apart from the title holder’s status as serial killer and their tendency to leave their victims with line-like wounds and taunting notes, nothing else is known

“The Red”: An even more enigmatic title, no one knows the identity or role of this entity, except for reported appearances during mysterious events in several countries. Did they cause or resolve these events? Why are they called as they are? No one knows. Since rumors of this person appeared in Romn soon after that of the Nameless Slasher, people have started to speculate their relationships, even guessing that they are the same person.

back again with the memory theory lmao minor spoilers for Memories of Celceta and major spoilers for Lacrimosa of Dana

Abstract of theory: Adol can receive Dana’s memories because he himself has incomplete memory, and this causes the Evolution to interpret Adol as Dana and vice versa.

The main premise of MoC is Adol’s memory loss and the regaining of it, and the early game’s insistent on it being pretty complete aka he doesn’t remember who he is, what his name is etc. I’m theorizing here that the memories he gets as orbs in that game are exactly what he gets back, as in he doesn’t get anything more or less than what is shown in the game.

That would mean Adol has pretty large gaps in what he remembers, and that’s where Dana’s life comes in: he’s tuned to find pieces of memories to fill in his own blank spaces. This is mainly what I suggest as to why it’s only Adol who dreams about Dana at first, and I’ll touch on how he does it later in this post.

As Adol gathers more of Dana’s past life, his ‘memory’ becomes an amalgam of his and Dana’s histories, which misleads the system of Evolution into interpreting the two as the same person, which could explain why present-day Dana only remembers up to what Adol remembers.

The misinterpretation, as a paradox, also allows Adol to be more attuned to Energy than the normal human(because Dana as the Maiden is extremely adept at Energy), letting him activate the Energy crystals(the heal points) and access Dana’s memories to begin with.

I’ll post one more theory regarding the Energy crystals later, but feel free to comment.
