I’d like to headcanon that in terms of muscle strength the sky pirates are just… up there as a group. Khunbish can probably beat Roland in an arm wrestling match, despite how lanky he looks.

It’s basically from that really early chapter where(I probably didn’t fully explain) Roland pulls a back muscle trying to mimic the sky pirates and lift an entire log by himself lol

mayu continues blabbing the next morning as if she didn’t sleep for like. 7 hours

Also about the weird hecking dimension which we either not give a name to or call the void is basically a buffer zone between the magic and physical layers of Ni no Kuni(aka Evan’s world) or what I’d like to refer to as the carpet under which the world sweeps shit it wants to forget under

I’ll talk about how this relates to our suffering boys too

Since Ichi no Kuni(aka Roland’s world) doesn’t have magic there’s no need for that buffer zone, but whenever something happens that becomes way too unstable(read: failed Kingmaker experiments) the world sweeps them under the carpet, where as said, they’ll be forgotten and forget, and eventually become usable again.

The Horned One itself doesn’t know what the fuck happens if it gets released there so being released into one of two layers is its main goal, but if it did it’d probably make things worse because read: buffer zone

Just a bit of clarification on what Doloran pulled: he reattached his soul to a portion of the Horned One’s power via Noumenia, but forced a simultaneous challenge(y’know the Kingmaker dimension thingy) and rejection scenario(which prompts the jump-kick into the void) so both Allegoria and the Horned One are kept in a pocket dimension in the void, most likely frying his magical circuits in the process. That’s what I call making use of what you learnt-/bricked

Unfortunately that also means the Horned One can influence the seal because it’s technically made of it whoops, so eventually Naverre and the sword are booted out into the physical world to start hacking at the seal via Kingsbonds stealing.

Since Naverre has a Kingsbond intact himself but it’s towards the horned one and doloran as (mostly) seperate entities, the world goes whoopsy-daisy on it and so Roland and/or his previous incarnations comes into the picture

with the lack of magic in Ichi no kuni Roland isn’t as affected but once he gets to Ni no kuni(horned one’s doing) Doloran??Kingmaker??uhhh Idk man I guess this guy with the same soul’s him because he’s in Ni no Kuni?? but at the same time whenever our Rolly-boy does use the powers it’s a memory jog on what really happened so he’s an anomaly stuck between being there and being in the void by default.

so what I’ve got for au kingmaker lore is as follows spoilers obviously and also it probably would not match up with what DLC gives us next year although! there are some references from the current DLC

or if in the millionth chance it does, here’s proof that this came before that lmao

-kingmakers are an artificial construct, created by combining sentient(?animal is a better word) creatures with forces from the magical world(read: eldritch abomination world), as to canon Alisandra’s reference

-how or by whom the knowledge to make kingmakers is lost to history, really, because 1. the entire civilization just stopped having presence and 2. not mentioned in that particular civilization’s history

-the realm of kingmakers is honestly more like a storage unit in case they really do need a Kingsbond to stabilise them

-In the AU both Doloran and Alisandra were part of the kingmakers makers(idk whether they were working underground or they were just. part of an entire civilization)

-Lofty is not part of the whole artificial construct shenanigan, instead being Evan’s definition of a ‘magical beast blessed by great power’, by a deity that disappeared(hint: DLC), who on investigation on the disappeared deity, found the whole kingsmaking business. He left them to it for a while, but on suspicion that it might have something to do with what he was investigating, he thought might as well start looking from the inside and volunteered to become one, except he didn’t need the whole abomination-tethering business

-Except he didn’t know usually Kingmakers go into limbo during their non-summoned status and had to stick around until Evan summoned him

well with the new information on kingmakers i’m

technically?? it doesn’t change much about the AU lore thankfully because I made it clear the kingsbond is still intact so no gatcha system involved but there’s now the additional question of who gave them the power

Leander, gesturing at a bowl of candy set outside his room: I’m much too old for Halloween, but I guess I can set out some candies

Roland:

Roland: *grabs one* I don’t trust you *nom*

Roland, one hour later, not a frog anymore: Leander. Leander you are killing me. Why do you do this

Leander: There was only one, really

Roland: IT’S AT THE TOP OF THE PILE YOU EXPECTED ME TO TEST IT DIDN’T YOU

announcment: hiatus

I’m going on hiatus regarding my main fic and posting, likely until December. I’ve been testing if I can handle school and the fic together, and for the last month it hasn’t been too great. I’ll still work on the drafts but so far there’s a few event pacing problems I haven’t worked out yet due to issues with infodumping/exposition so with this in mind I thought I’d rather let it ferment like what happened with most of the fic, the AU starting a month or so I started writing it and all.
