Also because not a lot of people are on I’ll take this post to explain names

Rowlet: Olha: (Ys6: Box of Napishtim)
NPC who’s 1: a priestess of an elf+animal hybrid clan, 2: is proficient with arrows and 3: was found in a bird cage at one point in the story. I mainly called my female Rowlet Olha because of the reference to arrows… would’ve called her Karna(a team member in the Ys4 remake who is a knife-thrower) otherwise. Didn’t quite catch onto the Ol=Owl pun until now though.

Abra: Eldeel: (Ys4: Mask of the Sun/Memories of Celceta)
NPC who’s part of the mythical winged clan, and has access to what would be the database of the world. Pretty damn knowledgable and pretty damn pacifist, which corresponds to Abra’s absolute lack of attacking moves at early stages.

Growlithe: Chester: (Ys3: Wanderers from Ys/Oath in Felghana)
NPC who’s early appearances in the game who works under a lord… and Arcanine’s Chinese translation is ‘Protector dog’ in a sense so it fits.

Eevee: Hummel: (Ys8: Lacrimosa of Dana)
Team member and also my fav from the game lmao. I wanted to evolve the eevee into a Glaceon and the strands hanging from its ears reminded me of his scarf so might as well go with it. Ended up having a Quirky nature so I’d say lucky lmao

Munchlax: Roda: (multiple Ys games)
Name of the great tree of wisdom in the game. In some of its appearances it’s accompanied by a constantly sleepy animal sage but I forgot the name of that so I went with the closely associated name anyway.

Lunala(eventually): Iska: (Ys7: Legend of the Five Dragons)
The term which the Moon Clan in the game is referred to is the ‘Iska clan’, so you get where the lunar reference comes from lmao. The Moon Clan also is extremely relevant to the plot and is only referenced to until late-game so yep…
