Aaa I was thinking that Steven only got the pure energy form a bit later. Like in legends: Somebody did something great? Make him a god or something and things like that. I added some details in the other sketch post I did but in short, he gave the locals a reason to preserve the cave, after all.

Steven is 25 in the RSE/ORAS timeline, yeah, but imagine this weirdly mature kid just hanging around the house. Maybe it adds to his reputation, which works.

And yes, I’ve been thinking he does have the ability to swap between spirit and human form by way of, eh, condensing? But it wears him out sooner or later so visits to caves are kind of necessary now and then, since technically he’s a cave god. Plus when he’s apparently so obsessed with caves Stone Senior can just say ‘Hey look he isn’t interested in running a company so I’ll just hand the company down to some relative/that other CEO’ and just leave it off like that.

I haven’t got the time to watch Gravity Falls though, Grade 11 stuff is catching up fast.

Oops, seems like we did exactly opposite interpretations of how he got to be that way. I guess either would work, it’s just a different story. If it happened your way the backstory would probably have to be on how someone goes from “deification due to their reputation/achievements” to actually gaining supernatural characteristics. In my case I’d have to explain where the heck he’d come from then! I’ll go check out your post.

Mandatory fic idea for Wallace helping him with “maintenance” later on, featuring priceless moments such as “Steven where are you I cannot tell if this is just fog or you’ve transformed already” and “what do you mean we didn’t need a flashlight, I can’t see a damn thing!” (That last one courtesy of me refusing to learn Flash like ever because I’m a move elitist. IT’S POSSIBLE IF YOU BELIEEVE)
Anyway, yeah, the cave obsession is even canon no matter what.

Fair enough, although if you do have time later on I totally recommend that series. It started popping up everywhere so eventually I was just like “okay, let’s see what the fuss is ABOUT” and I was hooked by the end of the first ep. You know what…yeah, don’t start watching it now. The cliffhangers are staggering. (And good luck with your studies!)

Quickly confirming if you had in mind that Steven was a deity to begin with and met Stone Senior later, since again, it’s been a while heh. I don’t think it really gets in the way of the main story part though! Maybe I’ll do some explaining when I get the time for another post.

Steven being a troll cracks me up tbh. It works really well when you can be here, there and there too. (I only use Flash for the environment, and even so it’s on a Bidoof or whatever I won’t actually use in battle.) Or pre-‘maintenance’ being like ‘Okay Steven which hole in the ground we going to this time’ ‘What do you mean hole in the ground, they’re geographical formations that take hundreds of years to form’ and banter like that. 

I did notice a few clips of Gravity Falls here on tumblr though, so maybe I’ll see to it during Christmas break or something. Thanks!
