After seeing the anon about visually impaired Steven, I remember something on TV tropes. There was a (probably not serious but still) WMG about Steven being Albino, which kind of became a headcanon (especially in modern AUs, where anime hair doesn’t work). It could explain the sight problems and his wearing of long shirts and suits (to keep the sun off)- also why he got first into spending time in caves- he doesn’t have to worry about putting on a load of suncream~
